Bar Foundation Announces 2011 Grant Recipients

NORRISTOWN, PA - Montgomery Bar Foundation; the charitable arm of the Montgomery Bar Association, today announced that five (5) local organizations will receive Bar Foundation Grants to support their respective, law-related community initiatives.  Checks from the Bar Foundation will be distributed to the following organizations at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday May 19, 2011 at the Bar Building; just prior to the Association's Board Meeting:

Family Services of Montgomery County will receive $2,000 from the Bar Foundation to offset costs for a symposium they're producing on Latino legal issues.  Mission Kids, a non-profit that delivers support services to child victims of sexual abuse and their care givers will receive $1,000 to offset operating costs.  MCAP: The Montgomery Child Advocacy Project, a non-profit that provides pro bono legal representation and social services to abused and neglected children in Montgomery County will receive $2,000 in support to offset operating expenses.  The Montgomery County Library will receive $1,000 to help pay for public and countywide legal materials; while the Women's Center of Montgomery County will be awarded $2,000 for a special initiative aimed at legal advocacy.  According to Bar Foundation President Mark A. Kearney, Esq., the Foundation received grant requests from at least one community organization seeking funds to pay for assistance with specific legal matters.  Rather than awarding funds, they are presently seeking volunteers from within the Association to assist on a pro bono basis.

For over 25 years, grants like these have been awarded by the Bar Foundation to serve the elderly, homeless, victims of domestic violence, troubled and underprivileged youth, and other individuals and families in need. Through its work and giving, the Foundation supports law-related educational, charitable, and humanitarian projects throughout Montgomery County.  Those seeking information on future grant opportunities can obtain the Bar Foundation’s Grant Making Policy and Guidelines and a Grant Application online at or by calling (610) 994-3667.
